PUTTING AN END TO THE FOSSIL FUEL ERA

Deploying renewable energies and fostering direct electrification of end-uses are expected to enable strong decrease in greenhouse gas emissions. However, the energy transition cannot succeed without the development of low-carbon fuels. Our energy system is indeed articulated around energy-dense molecules that are easy to store and transport: oil products, natural gas, coal and biomass. In this context, green hydrogen is emerging as a critical solution in the low-carbon toolbox. Produced by means of water electrolysis with low-carbon electricity, hydrogen can be used to store intermittent electricity on large scale and to decarbonize hard-to-abate energy applications such as heavy-duty road transport, shipping, aviation or industrial heating. Thanks to its versatility hydrogen can be used directly as a fuel or be reacted further with carbon or nitrogen to produce e-fuels that can substitute to virtually any fossil fuels while making use of existing infrastructure.

FALKOR contributes to the emergence of the hydrogen economy in France and Europe. It helps to address ongoing challenges of commercial deployment of technologies, upscaling of manufacturing capacity and increase in end-users’ demand.
